ViCaRe

ViCaRe stands for VISSIM Calibrator and Reporter and is pronounced /vɪˈkɛr/. ViCaRe is a VISSIM calibration and reporting automation software developed to help traffic engineers, transportation consultants, agencies, and microsimulation modelers automate VISSIM model calibration, simulation results reporting, scenario comparison, and Excel report generation using VISSIM-COM.

Important: ViCaRe must be used on a desktop computer that has PTV VISSIM installed with an active license that supports VISSIM-COM. ViCaRe automates VISSIM through the COM interface, so VISSIM-COM access is required for the calibration and reporting tools to function properly.

What does ViCaRe do?

ViCaRe focuses first on automated VISSIM calibration.

• Automates VISSIM calibration using VISSIM-COM to reduce repetitive manual testing and parameter adjustment.
• Calibrates driving behavior parameters, including Wiedemann settings, desired speed distributions, and lane-change-related inputs.
• Supports multi-scenario calibration so engineers can calibrate models across different scenarios instead of relying on one isolated condition.
• Validates multiple Measures of Effectiveness, including volumes, speeds, travel times, and queues.
• Applies dynamic mutation, penalized errors, and error tolerances to guide the calibration process with logic, math, and engineering control.
• Documents and reports every calibration step so the workflow is transparent, reviewable, and easier to explain.

ViCaRe also automates VISSIM results reporting.

• Generates formatted Excel reports for key VISSIM outputs.
• Reports node and intersection results, including movement and approach summaries.
• Uses the MISTAR Solution to improve approach and movement naming in complex intersections.
• Processes link, travel time, throughput, and network results for faster engineering review.
• Supports scenario comparison to help users evaluate alternatives more clearly.
• Reduces spreadsheet work and formatting errors while keeping engineers in full control of the process.
